About Me
Backstory time! I’m from a large, semi-nomadic family of literary nerds. (And I’m very proud of that fact.) I’ve been coming up with stories since before I could read and write; my mother was my scribe. Admittedly most of them weren’t any good, neither were my illustrations…
When I’m not writing or thinking about doing so, I enjoy reading, gardening, hiking, and various crafts, including, but not limited to, sewing, knitting, tatting (that’s a type of lace making, not drawing on myself or others), and scrapbooking. I also adore children, but currently, do not have any of my own.
One thing that should never be doubted is that I am a disciple of Jesus Christ, or in other words, a Christian. I believe that Jesus is my Savior and that the path He showed us is the only way back to Heaven, which is what He and our Heavenly Father ultimately want for us.
I want this to be clear, especially since a large portion of my stories deal with magic and similar themes. Why? I think it’s interesting and fun. Some of my stories include religion, some don’t. Does that mean I’m not standing as a witness of Christ? No! There’s more than one way to be a light to the world (Matthew 5:16). Specifically, I feel that producing wholesome entertainment, regardless of whether or not it’s overtly religious, is an important work to be done. I don’t know how far my voice will reach, or if my work will have any positive impact on the lives of others, but that isn’t really why I write. I write because I feel God gave me the ability and desire to do so, and I want to use that gift in a way that will honor Him.
I understand that not everyone believes the same way I do. That’s to be expected. There are billions of people in the world and we have all had different upbringings and life experiences. With this reality in mind, I ask that we all try to be respectful of each other and our differing beliefs.
Also, for those who were wondering, Anne Woodland is a pseudonym. It’s partially for privacy, but also because I have a rather unusual first name. (No, I’m not going to tell you what it is!) As someone who is phonetically challenged, I appreciate being able to say the name of authors whose works I enjoy and thought others might feel the same. Anne is technically my name; it’s just my middle name. Also, my last name is horribly generic, so I adopted “Woodland” which is a name from one of my family lines. (I also enjoy family history work, in case you couldn’t guess.) So there you go, the history of my nom de plume.
